Smith & Liddle bring their Newcastle show to The Grove

Smith & Liddle Newcastle returns to The Grove on Friday 16 October, with doors at 7pm for a home-region show from the North East duo. The date follows a busy first album cycle and gives the pair another Newcastle room in which to bring that record to the stage.

Songs For The Desert is Smith & Liddle’s nine-track debut album, recorded with producer Josh Ingledew and released on 31 October 2025. Elizabeth Liddle and Billy Smith built the record around close harmonies, soft rock, West Coast soul and 1960s rhythmic touches, drawing on the records they had shared long before the project took its current shape.

The Grove show matters because it lands almost a year after the debut album arrived. Rather than introducing the pair at the beginning of the project, the October date catches them with a full record already behind them and more live mileage in the songs. Their Bandcamp notes that the album grew from nine songs written as an escape during one of their hometowns’ rainiest years, with California and the Laurel Canyon era sitting in the background of the record’s sound.

The duo’s North East connection also makes this more than another touring stop. Smith & Liddle come from Teesside and County Durham, and Newcastle has already been part of their home-region live story. A smaller room such as The Grove keeps the focus on the vocal blend and arrangement detail that sits at the centre of their music.

Smith & Liddle play The Grove, Newcastle, on Friday 16 October 2026. Doors are advertised for 7pm. The show is listed as 14+, with under-18s needing to be accompanied by an adult. Tickets and the latest entry information are available through Gigantic.
