Fergus McCreadie returns to Gateshead on Thursday 5 November 2026 for a Sage Two performance at The Glasshouse, bringing together contemporary jazz and the Scottish folk influences that have become central to his music. The Mercury Prize-shortlisted pianist has developed a sound where landscape, melody and improvisation sit naturally together, giving his trio a character that reaches well beyond conventional piano jazz.
McCreadie’s writing often uses the language of Scottish traditional music as a starting point rather than an added flourish. That gives the compositions a strong melodic identity, while the trio format leaves enough space for the music to open up and change shape on stage.
