Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at The Glasshouse | Preview

Maria Włoszczowska directs Royal Northern Sinfonia in Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons at The Glasshouse in Gateshead on Thursday 22 October 2026, taking the solo violin role in one of classical music’s most recognisable works. The Sage One programme also includes music by Biber, Muffat and Telemann, giving the evening a broader baroque frame rather than treating Vivaldi as a standalone showpiece.

The familiarity of The Four Seasons can make it easy to forget how vivid the music is in a live setting, from birdsong and storms to the sharper rhythmic drive of the faster movements. Placing it alongside earlier baroque works gives the programme more contrast and shows how different composers used colour and character across the same broad period.

Włoszczowska’s dual role as director and soloist keeps the performance closely connected to the orchestra rather than separating the concerto from the rest of the programme. The concert is listed for 7.30pm and runs for around two hours including an interval. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult.
