American Wrestling is a 3-piece band from South Shields, who don’t really know how to fit in and never really have. We’re nearly rans. Hasn’t beens. Success adjacent. We call our music “loser-rock” and that’s essentially what it is, though our tongues may be in our cheeks as we say it. It might be more helpful to call it indie rock but that doesn’t quite nail it in the same way.
We are Martin Francis Trollope (guitar/vox), Glenn Coyne (bass) and Grant Lagan (drums), and have played together and separately in a variety of bands in a variety of places for around 20 years, but felt it was time to try something new. Bizarrely, none of us have been in a straightforward trio like this, so we guess this is new.
We’re keen readers, so a lot of our songs come from Grant reading a book and feeling inspired enough by it to start a song, demo it at home, and send it to Martin to ruin. Then we get together and feel it out in the practice room, and will hopefully bring it to a stage near you soon.
