The Magnetic North Band are a North East indie-folk group whose music blends groove-led indie with earthy folk textures and reflective songwriting. Rob Hodge, Andrew Stephenson, Andrew Dunn and Kieron Smith bring experience from earlier bands and solo projects into a sound that works equally well in intimate rooms and on livelier stages.
Their songs tend to circle around life, love and loss without losing the warmth and movement that sits underneath the writing. Early releases include The Ginger Demos and the single Steamboat Wilhelm, both of which helped establish the mix of melody, folk influence and understated groove that runs through the band’s work.
Live appearances around the North East continue to be an important part of the group’s identity, giving those songs room to stretch beyond the recorded versions and keeping the band closely connected to the regional scene that shaped them.
