Bitchin Bajas Newcastle at The Lubber Fiend

Bitchin Bajas have spent years building music from repetition, electronics, acoustic instruments and gradually shifting textures. Their work can move from ambient drift into more rhythmic territory without forcing a hard divide between the two, making the live experience as much about immersion as individual songs.

The Lubber Fiend should help that approach land properly. Its DIY programme regularly makes space for experimental artists, while the room is small enough for subtle changes in volume and texture to remain part of the performance rather than disappear into a larger hall.

The group’s current material continues that long-running interest in repetition and atmosphere, but recent work has also pushed into more energetic territory. As a result, the Newcastle set should not simply be a quiet ambient exercise. There is room for movement, pulse and a more physical side to the sound alongside the slower-building passages.
