No Cigar bring Under The Surface to Cluny 2
New Zealand five-piece No Cigar bring third album Under The Surface to Cluny 2, Newcastle, on 22 November 2026.

No Cigar at Cluny 2 brings the New Zealand five-piece’s biggest UK and European touring year yet to Newcastle on Sunday 22 November 2026. The band arrive behind their third record, Under The Surface, a release they describe as “semi rock” and one shaped as much by time on the road as by a conventional studio routine. Doors open at 7pm and advance tickets are £17 plus fees.
No Cigar at Cluny 2: Under The Surface on the road
The roots of Under The Surface reach back to touring before the December 2023 release of The Great Escape. Rather than waiting until one album cycle had finished, No Cigar began writing and recording the next batch of songs while travelling. A stop in Chantilly, a town north of Paris, became a focused period of work when the group settled in for several weeks to develop the third album.
That travelling origin gives the Newcastle date an interesting context. These are songs created while the band were already learning how their music behaves from room to room, and they now return to the road as part of their largest UK and European tour so far. The five-piece line-up of Willy on lead vocals, Josh and Arthur on guitars and backing vocals, Sam on bass and Ned on drums has the range to move between melody, rhythm and the more open edges suggested by the “semi rock” tag.
The phrase also leaves No Cigar room to avoid being boxed into one narrow lane. Their catalogue can carry rock weight without treating volume as the only destination, and Under The Surface extends a story already moving quickly from the previous album. For an audience encountering the band for the first time, the Cluny 2 show offers a direct introduction to that new phase. For existing listeners, it is a chance to hear how material built in transit has developed after another year of international touring.
