North East modern soul band SouLutions bring their Overdose of Joy European Tour home to Pilgrim Newcastle on 23 October.

Doors open at 7.30pm for a full-band show built around a group that has spent more than a decade carving out its own place in the UK soul scene.

The Newcastle date is the homecoming stop on the Overdose of Joy European Tour. That gives the Pilgrim show a different feel from a routine regional booking, particularly because SouLutions describe themselves as a North East outfit and have developed a close relationship with the venue over previous appearances.
The band grew from the long-running songwriting partnership of Steve Lee and Louise Mehan. They had already performed together for years before their own material began gaining serious attention in 2014. Since then, SouLutions have released four albums, Destiny, Thankful, Fate and Anthology, while their singles and remixes have reached listeners across the UK and European soul scenes.
The current tour takes its name from Overdose of Joy, the band’s 2026 reworking of a soul song originally recorded in 1977. SouLutions had been performing the track live for more than a year before releasing their own version, so the song arrives on the tour with a history already built on stage rather than being dropped into the set as a brand-new studio idea.
That live experience matters at Pilgrim. SouLutions expand Lee and Mehan’s writing into a large band setting, with the arrangements drawing on Philly soul while retaining a contemporary edge. Pilgrim is a much closer room than many festival or theatre stages, which should put the emphasis on the rhythm section, vocals and interaction across the full ensemble.
The homecoming angle also makes this useful for anyone following North East artists beyond the grassroots level. SouLutions have built an audience well outside the region, yet this date brings the European run back to the city where the group has an established following.
