Takuya Nakamura The Grove Newcastle brings the New York-based producer, trumpeter and multi-instrumentalist to St Michael’s Road on Tuesday 13 October 2026. Doors open at 7pm, and the date is billed as a live performance rather than a standard DJ appearance, which matters with an artist whose work has always blurred the line between electronic production and improvisation.
Nakamura has spent more than two decades moving between trumpet, keyboards and electronic instruments. His official Bandcamp catalogue reflects that range, while his wider career has connected him with artists including Quincy Jones, Lee Scratch Perry, GZA, Arto Lindsay, Brazilian Girls and Jojo Mayer’s Nerve. That background gives the Grove date a different shape from a conventional club booking.

The Grove should be a strong room for that approach. In a larger venue, that detail can get lost behind the scale of the production.
There is also an element of unpredictability here that separates this date from a fixed-band tour.
