Tigercub The Grove Newcastle arrives on Friday 23 October 2026 as the Brighton trio brings its latest chapter to St Michael’s Road. Doors open at 7pm, and the date follows a period of change for a band that has spent years moving between heavy alternative rock, darker melodic writing and the bigger sound that pushed The Perfume of Decay into wider rooms.
The current material points somewhere different again. Tigercub recorded its latest work at Rockfield Studios in Wales over a concentrated nine-day stretch, with the core takes tracked live. Frontman Jamie Hall has described the direction around this period as a move towards something brighter after the gothic weight of The Perfume of Decay, while bassist Jimi Wheelwright and drummer James Allix remain central to the way the band creates its physical live sound.

The Grove should suit that shift particularly well. Tigercub can sound huge when the guitars open up, but the songs also rely on the chemistry of three musicians playing tightly together. There is also a strong contrast between the older catalogue and where the band is heading now. The heavier, more claustrophobic tracks from The Perfume of Decay can sit beside newer material that carries more space and light, giving the set somewhere to travel instead of holding one mood from start to finish.
The Newcastle date comes during a dedicated run rather than a one-off appearance, so the new material should already have had time to develop on stage. That matters with a band like Tigercub because the arrangements often gain extra force once they are played live repeatedly.
