The Revolutionaires Return to Pilgrim Newcastle

The Revolutionaires Pilgrim Newcastle brings the North East rhythm and blues band back to Pilgrim on Sunday 25 October 2026, with doors at 4pm. The afternoon slot gives the show a different shape from the venue’s usual evening gigs, while the band arrives with a sound built around 1940s and 1950s R&B pushed through a much harder live approach.

The Revolutionaires draw heavily on artists including Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Roy Brown, but they do not treat that material as a museum piece. Their current live identity adds the attack of later blues players such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Duke Robillard and Mike Henderson, giving the songs more bite than a straight period recreation.

That breadth of experience helps explain why the group remains active on the North East circuit while continuing to take its high-energy R&B further afield.

The Pilgrim date is particularly well matched to the way the band plays. Jump blues, rockabilly and early rhythm and blues depend on movement and interaction as much as individual songs, and a smaller standing room keeps that exchange close. With a 4pm start, the show also lands more like a Sunday live session than a conventional late-night headline booking.

The Revolutionaires have recorded five CDs across their career, so the set has enough depth to move beyond familiar covers. Their own sound comes from the point where older R&B structures meet a more aggressive blues delivery, which should give the afternoon a stronger identity than a generic vintage-rock show.

There is a clear regional connection too. The band remains part of the North East live circuit, with local bookings continuing alongside wider touring activity. Bringing them into Pilgrim fits a venue programme that regularly places established regional musicians beside newer local acts and visiting artists.
