Pearly Gates is the electronic project led by Darlington-born Tom Hunt, blending club music with indie songwriting and the energy of a live band. Hunt developed the project while living in Newcastle, moving away from his earlier band work and towards a sound shaped by UK garage, house and electronic pop.
Influences including Basement Jaxx, Disclosure, Tommy Villiers and Sammy Virji feed into tracks such as debut single All Night and later release META. The production is built for movement, but Hunt’s approach keeps guitars, vocals and songwriting in the picture rather than treating Pearly Gates as a purely producer-led project.
That balance becomes clearest on stage, where keys, guitar and a fuller live setup turn the electronic material into something more physical. Newcastle’s student and grassroots scenes played an important role in the project’s early development, giving Hunt space to test club-ready ideas in front of live audiences rather than keeping them inside the studio.
