Pollyfromthedirt is a North East artist whose songs turn everyday northern life into something playful, strange and sharply observed. The project mixes lo-fi indie, off-kilter rhythms and dry humour with lyrics that can move from affectionate nostalgia to pointed social commentary without losing their warmth.
Tracks including Cherry Seeds, Darlos Cowboys and There’s No Such Thing as England show that balance clearly. The production often feels deliberately rough-edged, leaving space for the words and character of the performance to do the heavy lifting rather than smoothing everything into conventional indie polish.
That individuality has helped Pollyfromthedirt build a growing audience well beyond the North East, with live dates around the UK and national press attention following the project’s early releases. The humour may be immediate, but there is usually something more personal or uneasy sitting just underneath it.
