The Inklings

The Inklings are a North East trio made up of Darren Thomas, Mick McGee and James Thomas, writing and recording their own material across post-punk, alternative rock, new wave, punk, ska and reggae. The mix gives the band a broad palette without losing the darker storytelling that runs through much of their work.

Their catalogue includes This Time For Real, Bricolage, Bring Out Your Dead, The Tunnel at the End of the Light, Compromised and 2026 release Move 37. That steady output has given The Inklings a substantial body of self-released music and a strong DIY identity.

Live appearances around the North East, including Darlington shows with artists such as Newtown Neurotics and Attila the Stockbroker, have kept the band connected to the region’s grassroots alternative circuit. Their appeal lies in having enough material and personality to feel established without losing the independence that shaped the project.
