Chumpwrecker

Chumpwrecker is the breakcore and drum & bass project of North East electronic musician Ian Hanratty. The project is built around hardware-only live performance, using synths and samplers rather than a laptop or DAW on stage.

That approach gives the music a deliberately raw and unpredictable feel. Breakcore, drum & bass, distortion and twisted synth textures are assembled live, allowing the set to shift in real time rather than following a fixed backing track.

Chumpwrecker has appeared on mixed North East bills alongside heavy acts including Old Corpse Road and Fateweaver, where the aggressive rhythms and physical nature of the performance make more sense than the genre labels might suggest. It gives the regional alternative scene something genuinely different from the usual guitar-band format.
