Dave McCabe Brings The Zutons Songs and Solo Material to The Glasshouse

Dave McCabe heads to The Glasshouse on Thursday 3 December for a Sage Two show that stretches beyond the songs most people know him for with The Zutons.

The Liverpool songwriter is joined by very special guest James Jay Lewis, with the night bringing together Zutons favourites, McCabe’s solo material and songs from other corners of his writing career.

There’s obviously no getting away from The Zutons when McCabe walks on stage — nor should there be. Those songs are a big part of why people will be in the room. But this show has a bit more going on than a straight nostalgia set.

His solo work gives him somewhere else to take the evening, and Sage Two is a good room for that mix. The quieter songwriting can still land properly, while the bigger Zutons material has enough space to lift when the set needs it.

James Jay Lewis is a strong addition rather than just somebody filling the support slot. The Liverpool-born multi-instrumentalist has worked with Cast and The La’s as well as developing his own solo catalogue, and the pair also play together during parts of the night.

That should give the show a loose, collaborative feel and allow songs from different stages of both musicians’ careers to sit together naturally. If you’ve mainly followed McCabe through The Zutons, it’s also a chance to hear where his songwriting has gone outside the band.
