The Newcastle show brings together two bands with very different takes on modern heavy music. Employed To Serve have built their reputation on metallic hardcore, abrasive riffs and an intense live show, while Danish band Cabal bring a darker, more extreme edge rooted in deathcore and metal. Cold Culture complete the bill.
Employed To Serve and Cabal Newcastle
For Employed To Serve, the show continues a long run of live activity that has helped turn the band into one of the most respected names in the UK heavy scene. Formed around Justine Jones and Sammy Urwin, the group developed from a two-piece grindcore project into a full band, gradually widening their sound without losing the aggression that defined the early material.
They have since shared bills with acts including Code Orange, Bury Tomorrow, Loathe and Underoath, while appearing at major festivals including Download, Glastonbury, Graspop and Hellfest. That experience should make the Students’ Union an ideal setting for a set built around volume, movement and a close crowd.
Cabal bring a different kind of weight. Their sound leans into crushing low-end, extreme-metal textures and tightly controlled bursts of aggression, giving the night a proper co-headline feel rather than a conventional main-act-and-support structure.
Cold Culture complete the bill
Cold Culture are also confirmed on the Newcastle line-up, making this a three-band package from the start of the evening. For fans of modern metal and hardcore, that should make the date one of the stronger heavy bills on the city’s autumn calendar.
