Myles Sanko brings his independently produced I See My Light Tour to Pilgrim Newcastle on 8 October, weeks after his seventh album arrives.
Myles Sanko at Pilgrim Newcastle brings one of modern soul and jazz’s most distinctive independent artists to the city on Thursday 8 October 2026. Doors are at 7.30pm, tickets are £20, and the show arrives just weeks after the release of Sanko’s seventh studio album, I See My Light.
Why Myles Sanko at Pilgrim Newcastle matters
The timing gives this date a clear purpose. I See My Light is released worldwide on 11 September through Sanko’s own 213 Music label, making the Pilgrim show one of the early UK stops in the album’s live life. The record follows 2024’s Let It Unfold and continues the independence that has become central to his recent work.
Sanko describes the new album as another step in a journey built around self-love, healing and artistic independence. Musically, it keeps his blend of soul, jazz and hip-hop at the centre while drawing on rhythmic influences from his Ghanaian heritage. That makes the Newcastle show more than a catalogue set built around older material. It arrives at the point where a new record is becoming part of the live repertoire.
The tour itself is also unusually personal in the way it is organised. Sanko is independently presenting and self-producing the I See My Light Tour, keeping the same do-it-yourself approach that sits behind the album release. That direct connection between artist, label and live show gives the Pilgrim date a different feel from a conventional package tour.
He is travelling with a full band featuring Tom O’Grady on piano, Rhodes and synthesiser, Ric Elsworth on drums and percussion, George Chasmore on electric guitar, Jon Mapp on electric bass, and Gareth Lumbers on tenor saxophone and flute. That line-up gives the new material room to move between intimate soul writing and fuller jazz arrangements.
Pilgrim is a good fit for that sound. The venue’s programme regularly crosses jazz, soul, funk and roots music, while its smaller room should put Sanko’s voice and the detail of the band at the centre of the night.
