The special duo performance follows the recording of their new album in a remote cottage on Loch Fyne, placing fresh material and an unusually broad musical conversation at the centre of the evening.

The pair recorded their brand-new duo album together in a remote cottage on Loch Fyne in Scotland. Its stripped-back setting feeds into music that moves between folk, jazz, Americana, beat poetry and roots-inflected blues. Rather than smoothing those styles into one sound, the collaboration uses their differences to create tension and space.
Gillespie brings incisive lyric writing, guitar and more than 15 years of international touring. Across five albums and a published poetry collection, the Anglo-American songwriter has performed at venues including CBGB’s in New York, Blue Note Milano, Ronnie Scott’s and the Purcell Room. She has also appeared on BBC programmes including Woman’s Hour and Loose Ends.
Montague supplies electric, acoustic and baritone guitars, shifting between detailed accompaniment and fearless improvisation. He previously co-wrote five tracks on Gillespie’s album Half Cut, so the new duo record grows from an established creative relationship rather than a one-off pairing.
That history should make the Cluny 2 performance especially fluid. Gillespie’s words can remain at the front, while Montague’s broad harmonic palette allows each song to change shape around them. Consequently, the show can balance intimacy with risk, moving from carefully told stories into passages where the guitar work becomes more open and unpredictable.
