Catch the Sparrow is the folk project of singer-songwriter Suze Terwisscha van Scheltinga. Born and raised in the Netherlands, she later moved to the North East and became closely involved with Newcastle’s folk scene, building a local following through intimate live performances.
Her songwriting leans into the closeness and detail of contemporary folk, with a strong emphasis on voice, acoustic arrangement and storytelling. That understated approach gives the songs room to breathe and suits the smaller venues where much of the project’s North East connection was formed.
Although she relocated to London in 2024, Newcastle remains an important part of Catch the Sparrow’s musical story. A return to The Cumberland Arms in November 2026 reconnects the project with one of the grassroots settings that helped establish that relationship with the region.
