Drenched and their North East roots
Drenched are a North East heavy alternative band whose music sits between nu-grunge, post-hardcore and modern rock. Formed in 2020, the group have built their identity around dense guitar tones, shifting dynamics and a willingness to move from intimate, atmospheric sections into much heavier bursts of sound. Their Spotify profile keeps the description simple with “North East UK Nu-Grunge”, but the catalogue shows a band with more range than that label alone suggests.
The band’s influences stretch from Deftones and Loathe to Tool and Sevendust, which helps explain the balance between weight and space in their music. Rather than relying on constant aggression, Drenched use contrast to make the heavier sections work harder. Riffs can feel thick and claustrophobic one moment before giving way to more melodic passages, while the vocals move between vulnerability and force depending on what the song needs.
From Grey to Lost
Early singles helped establish the band’s direction before the Grey EP arrived in 2024. Tracks such as (in)sane and Cycles pushed the group further into progressive alternative territory, combining grunge textures with more modern production and a heavier rhythmic edge. The follow-up Lost EP in 2025 continued that development, alongside tracks including Choked, Cure and Lost.
The newer material feels increasingly confident because the band are not afraid to let songs breathe. There is enough melody for the choruses to connect, but the arrangements still carry tension. That gives Drenched a sound that can appeal to listeners coming from grunge, post-hardcore, alternative metal or heavier indie without the band feeling trapped in one scene.
Drenched on the North East live circuit
The band’s regional connection is clear. Members have described themselves as being based mainly in the North East, with the majority of their shows taking place in Newcastle. They have also spoken positively about the strength of the local heavy scene, namechecking fellow regional bands and the sense of support between artists sharing the same grassroots venues.
SoundBite North East has featured Drenched through Veritas Festival coverage, adding them to a line-up built around current regional rock talent. That setting suits them. Their music has the scale to push beyond small rooms, but the band’s development is still closely tied to the North East network that helped them grow. With a stronger catalogue behind them and a clear identity forming around their nu-grunge sound, Drenched are one of the more convincing heavy alternative bands currently coming through the region.
