El Ray

El Ray are an indie-rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, combining bright guitar work and punchy rhythms with lyrics that often lean into more reflective territory. Their sound sits between modern indie rock and the sharper end of alternative guitar music, with enough melody to make the songs immediate without losing a darker edge.

Influences including Sam Fender, The Strokes and Fontaines D.C. can be heard in the balance between upbeat instrumentation and more melancholic writing. The guitars can move from clean, driving patterns into heavier crescendos, while the rhythm section keeps the songs direct and mobile.

The band have continued to appear on North East bills including Aelius Alternative Festival in Newcastle while also developing a wider base across Newcastle and London. Their 2025 Live For War Child release captures that range particularly well, moving between punchier indie-rock moments and slower, more dramatic material.
