Houghton Brass are a long-established brass band from Houghton-le-Spring, with a history stretching back to the early 1980s. The group developed from the former Houghton Schools’ Band and has remained closely connected to the musical life of Sunderland and County Durham.
Their repertoire ranges from traditional brass-band favourites to modern arrangements, while performances have taken them across local festivals, civic events, community celebrations and the British contesting circuit. That mix of competition and public performance has kept the band active across generations rather than simply preserving an older tradition.
Houghton-le-Spring remains central to the ensemble’s identity. Regular appearances around Sunderland and County Durham have made Houghton Brass a familiar part of the region’s musical landscape and a continuing link to the North East’s strong brass-band heritage.
