KNATS are a Newcastle jazz group whose music brings together contemporary jazz, groove and the energy of the North East scene. Their approach sits comfortably within the current wave of British jazz, but the band’s identity remains strongly tied to Newcastle and the musicians and venues around them.
The group have built their reputation through both recorded music and a busy live schedule, using rhythm and interplay rather than flashy excess to give the songs their momentum. Their sets move between tightly arranged passages and the freedom of improvisation, which makes the live version of KNATS central to understanding what they do.
That momentum continues with North East dates including King Street Social Club in October 2026 and a Boiler Shop headline show on 3 April 2027. The latter takes the band into one of Newcastle’s larger independent rooms and underlines how far the project has grown from its local roots.
