Martin Stephenson & The Daintees are one of the North East’s long-running folk-rock and roots bands, formed in the region in the early 1980s and led by Durham-born singer-songwriter Martin Stephenson.
Stephenson developed his songwriting while playing in bands around the North East before forming The Daintees. The group became closely associated with the region’s Kitchenware Records scene and built a reputation for mixing folk, roots, pop, rockabilly, blues and country influences into a distinctive style.
Albums including Boat to Bolivia, Gladsome, Humour & Blue, Salutation Road and The Boy’s Heart established the band nationally. After reforming in 2000, Stephenson has continued to alternate between solo work, smaller collaborations and full Daintees tours.
The band’s future dates include a return to Newcastle for a March 2027 show at Wylam Brewery.
Official information, music and live dates are available from Martin Stephenson & The Daintees’ official website and Bandcamp.
