Monster Ceilidh Band

Monster Ceilidh Band are a Newcastle folk group who take traditional dance music somewhere much louder, stranger and more modern. Fiddle-led tunes sit alongside electronic production, bass-heavy rhythms and the kind of momentum more often associated with a club night than a conventional ceilidh.

The band can work in a traditional called-ceilidh format, but their electronic shows push the idea further, bringing drum-and-bass, programmed beats and experimental textures into the arrangements. That mix has made them a distinctive part of the North East folk scene, where respect for the source material sits comfortably alongside a willingness to reshape it.

At the centre are musicians with deep roots in traditional music, joined by electronic collaborators who give the material a different physical weight. The result is folk music built for dancing first: energetic, communal and deliberately difficult to keep in one genre.
