Nano Kino are a Newcastle four-piece whose music sits between dream pop, shoegaze and groove-led alternative rock. The songwriting grew from a shared love of Cocteau Twins, Women, Life Without Buildings and late-80s house, giving the band a sound that can feel ethereal and rhythmic at the same time.
After years of carefully developing the project, 2026 brought a run of singles including Reset, Wipeout and Square Eyes, leading into debut album Object A. Recorded at Blank Studios and Polestar and mixed by Sam Grant, the album draws together hypnotic rhythms, detailed guitar work and Sarah Suri’s airy vocals without smoothing away the more unusual edges.
Live, Nano Kino have shared stages with artists including Arab Strap, Miki Berenyi Trio and Still Corners, while Newcastle remains the centre of the project. A 2026 Cluny 2 album launch and later Mercury Prize Fringe appearance underline a band whose long development has finally turned into a much more visible live presence.
