Northern Daughters

Northern Daughters are a Sunderland-based six-piece girl band making bright, emotionally direct pop about friendship, confidence, anxiety, relationships and the pressure of growing up. The members first met through Inspire Stage School and had already spent years performing together before the band became a project in its own right.

Debut single Open Arms became an early statement, commissioned by Sunderland City Council as an anthem celebrating the city’s people and energy. The project formed part of the wider One Big Summer programme around BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, with the accompanying video filmed in Sunderland.

The band have since appeared at Sunderland’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, Sunderland Food and Drink Festival, Summer Streets Festival and other regional events. Their development remains closely tied to Sunderland, while a rapidly growing online following has begun introducing the group to audiences further afield.
