Northside bring Chicken Rhythms anniversary tour to The Grove

Northside Newcastle comes to The Grove on Saturday 28 November as part of the Chicken Rhythms 35 Year Anniversary Tour. Doors are listed for 7pm, with the Manchester band taking the anniversary run through Leeds, Nottingham, London, Sheffield, Newcastle, Aberdeen, Glasgow and Manchester.

The title of the tour tells you exactly where the focus sits. Northside are using 2026 to revisit Chicken Rhythms, the album that remains at the centre of their catalogue and their connection to the early-1990s Manchester scene. Rather than treating the record as a passing reference, the band’s current official links put the 35-year anniversary front and centre across the tour.

Northside Newcastle marks 35 years of Chicken Rhythms

The Chicken Rhythms anniversary gives The Grove date a clear reason to exist beyond another reunion-era booking. It places songs associated with Northside’s original run back in a full live setting while the band are actively touring across the UK, giving longtime listeners a chance to hear that material in a room far smaller than the scale of the era that first made them known.

Northside’s current line-up remains tied to the band’s Manchester roots, with Warren ‘Dermo’ Dermody on vocals and Cliff Ogier on bass alongside guitarist Rob Glennie, with the band’s recent reunion involving original drummer Paul ‘Wol’ Walsh. Their music sits between guitar-led indie, dance rhythms and the loose crossover that helped define the Madchester period, so the set should feel different from a straight guitar-band nostalgia show.

The Grove is a useful setting for that balance. The room is compact enough for the rhythmic side of the songs to feel immediate, while the anniversary format gives the night a stronger sense of occasion than a standard club date.

The Newcastle stop also arrives immediately after Sheffield and before the tour continues north to Aberdeen and Glasgow. That places The Grove firmly inside the main anniversary run rather than as an isolated extra date.

Northside have also announced their first new album in 36 years, Welcome to The Carnival, due in spring 2027, and new single Hey! Mr Brown, out 30 October 2026. The release follows the 35th-anniversary reissue of Chicken Rhythms and adds a new dimension to the Newcastle gig. Read the full Northside album and tour announcement.
