The Fell Bring Modern Rock Line-Up to The Grove
Modern-rock group The Fell bring Billy Sheehan, Mike Krompass and Toby Rand to The Grove Newcastle on 8 December 2026.
The Fell at The Grove brings a heavyweight modern-rock line-up to Newcastle on Tuesday 8 December 2026, with doors at 7pm. The project brings together bassist Billy Sheehan, producer and guitarist Mike Krompass and Australian vocalist Toby Rand, giving this Grove date an unusually concentrated amount of rock experience in a relatively intimate room.
The band are still building their own story rather than simply trading on those individual CVs. Their current material includes debut EP Killswitch and the single Footprints, a song that proved important to the group before The Fell had properly taken shape. Billy Sheehan has said Footprints was one of the first songs he heard from Krompass and Rand and that hearing it helped lead to the formation of the band.
That makes The Fell at The Grove more interesting than a standard supergroup stop. Footprints was also the first completed song created by the band and became a reference point for the style they wanted to pursue, balancing heavier modern-rock production with a strong melodic pull. Krompass has described the track in terms of heavy elements, pop-leaning melodies and big hooks, while Rand has linked the song’s theme to retracing wrong turns and searching for redemption.
The individual backgrounds add another layer. Sheehan’s career includes Mr. Big, David Lee Roth and Sons of Apollo, while Krompass has production and songwriting credits spanning acts including Smash Mouth and Nelly Furtado. Rand is known from Rock Star: Supernova, Juke Kartel and Ashen Moon. Put together, those histories make the small-scale setting at The Grove a particularly interesting place to hear a band whose sound is designed around sizeable riffs and polished modern-rock production.
Even the name carries some intent. The Fell takes its name from the Old English word for a rugged highland or mountain, which the band connects to Celtic heritage, strength and the idea of climbing together through music.
