The Truffle Valley Boys Bring 1950s Bluegrass to Cluny 2

Truffle Valley Boys Newcastle brings the Italian quartet’s uncompromising take on early bluegrass to Cluny 2 on Sunday 18 October 2026. Their approach centres on one microphone, period instruments and repertoire drawn from lesser-known American groups of the 1950s.

The quartet performs around one microphone and uses period instruments to recreate early bluegrass. That staging makes movement part of the arrangement. Players step forward for solos, then move back into the blend, so balance comes from the musicians as much as the sound desk.

The band draws heavily from the genre’s defining 1950s years. However, its repertoire reaches beyond the most obvious standards. Gospel, swing and blues feed into the sound, while the rhythmic drive points towards the later rise of rockabilly.

Formed in 2014, The Truffle Valley Boys have taken this detailed approach across European bluegrass, country and rockabilly events. Consequently, the vintage presentation is backed by extensive touring experience. The group’s attention to instrumentation and visual detail also supports the music rather than replacing it.

Since 2019, the band has featured in a permanent international-bluegrass exhibit in Owensboro, Kentucky. That recognition is especially notable for a quartet based in Italy. It also underlines how far this American roots form has travelled and developed beyond its original region.

Cluny 2 offers a fitting setting for the single-microphone format. The audience can see the musicians adjust their positions and hear how those movements reshape the mix. Meanwhile, the compact room should preserve both the acoustic detail and the band’s fiery drive.

Doors open at 7pm, and advance tickets cost £16 plus fees. The show is for ages 16 and over. In addition, under-18s must attend with an adult. No support act is currently named.
