We Are Scientists bring With Love & Squalor anniversary show to Boiler Shop
We Are Scientists bring their With Love & Squalor 20th anniversary celebrations and Qualifying Miles material to Boiler Shop Newcastle on 6 October 2026.

We Are Scientists at Boiler Shop brings the New York indie-rock duo back to Newcastle on Tuesday 6 October 2026 as part of their continued 20th anniversary celebrations for With Love & Squalor. Keith Murray and Chris Cain will revisit material from the record that broke them internationally, while also bringing songs from their ninth studio album, Qualifying Miles.
Released in 2005, With Love & Squalor remains the album most closely associated with the band’s breakthrough. It gave them songs including ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt’, ‘The Great Escape’ and ‘It’s a Hit’, combining sharp guitar lines, big hooks and the dry wit that has remained part of the We Are Scientists identity ever since. The Newcastle show forms part of a nine-date autumn run beginning in Oxford on 30 September and ending in Bristol on 10 October.
The anniversary element is only part of the story. Qualifying Miles, released in July 2025, saw the band lean back into the immediate guitar-led indie rock that shaped their early years without simply trying to recreate the past. That balance should make the Boiler Shop date feel less like a straightforward nostalgia show and more like a look across two different points in the band’s career.
Boiler Shop should suit that approach well. The former industrial space can carry the bigger singalong moments while still keeping the room close enough for the quick-fire energy and onstage humour that has long been part of a We Are Scientists show. For anyone who first found the band through With Love & Squalor, there is plenty of reason to revisit those songs live; newer listeners should also get a proper sense of where the band are now through the Qualifying Miles material.
The venue lists doors at 7pm on Tuesday 6 October. The show is 14+, with under-16s required to be accompanied by an adult. The official Boiler Shop page confirms the anniversary focus, while the band’s current autumn dates also centre on With Love & Squalor alongside newer material.
A special 20th anniversary reissue of With Love & Squalor is also expected to be available at the merch stand during the UK run. Ticket availability can change, so check the official Boiler Shop event page or We Are Scientists’ live listings before travelling for the latest availability, timings and entry information.
