WOW 80s LIVE at The Point Sunderland
WOW 80s Live brings a seven-piece band, disco warm-up and two live sets to The Point Sunderland. Doors 7pm; live show starts 8pm.
WOW 80s Live is one of the more fully produced music nights in The Point Sunderland’s autumn programme. Rather than a standard one-set tribute slot, the show uses a seven-piece live band, an 80s disco warm-up and two separate live sets, with the whole evening built around the decade’s biggest pop and rock songs.
Table Of Content
Doors open at 7pm, followed by the warm-up disco, before the live show starts at 8pm. The first set runs for around an hour, followed by a 25-minute interval and an 80-minute second set, with the night expected to finish at around 10:45pm.
WOW 80s Live at The Point
The song choices go well beyond one corner of the decade. Queen, Simple Minds and Frankie Goes to Hollywood sit alongside Level 42, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Whitney Houston, Hue & Cry, The Communards and Wet Wet Wet. That gives the night genuine variety rather than turning it into a straight rock tribute or synth-pop set.
The seven-piece line-up is another important part of the appeal. Songs from this era often depend on layers of vocals, keys and rhythm parts, so having a larger band gives the arrangements more space than a stripped-back covers set. Full sound and lighting production also helps the show feel like a proper 80s concert rather than a themed playlist.
Doors, show time and finish
This is a ticketed event. Doors are at 7pm and the live show starts at 8pm, so the 7pm time should be treated as the arrival point rather than the band’s stage time. The second set is expected to finish at around 10:45pm.
