Grace Smith Trio

Grace Smith Trio bring a contemporary edge to English folk music, led by fiddle and viola player Grace Smith from Saltburn on the North East coast. The group draw on traditional dance tunes and regional influence while using modern arrangements to keep the music moving rather than treating folk as something fixed in the past.

Fiddle, concertina and mandolin form the core of the trio’s sound, giving the players room to move between tightly arranged instrumental passages and looser, more expressive sections. Smith’s melodic playing sits at the centre, while the smaller line-up keeps every rhythmic and harmonic detail exposed.

The trio’s North East connection is clear through Smith’s Saltburn roots and a continuing run of regional shows alongside a wider UK touring schedule. A September 2026 appearance at The Cumberland Arms with Archie Churchill-Moss reflects that balance between local venues and the broader folk circuit.
