Robyn Banks is a Newcastle-based alternative and indie artist whose songs mix guitar-led hooks with sharp humour, politics and personal storytelling. Her influences range from Fiona Apple and Wilco to Viagra Boys and early Katy Perry, but the result feels less like a checklist and more like a project built around personality.
Songs such as Play Ball show that balance particularly well, using satire and frustration without losing the melodic side of the music. Banks’ writing often moves between relationships, social observations and awkward real-life detail, giving the songs a conversational feel rather than a carefully polished distance.
Her live reputation has grown through venues including The Cumberland Arms, Head of Steam and The Grove, alongside festival appearances such as Twisterella and Euphony. Grassroots venues are a big part of the project’s identity, and Banks’ stage presence makes the most sense in those close rooms where the humour, lyrics and heavier guitar moments can all land properly.
