Tom A. Smith

Tom A. Smith is a Sunderland-born singer-songwriter and guitarist whose alt-rock sound is built around big choruses, sharp guitar lines and the restless energy of someone who has been playing live since childhood.

He first picked up a guitar at four and was performing on stage by eight, with early festival appearances eventually giving way to support slots and tours alongside artists including Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Lathums, The Mysterines, Courteeners and Miles Kane. Releases such as Wolves, Dragonfly and 2026 material including Fashion have tracked his move from emerging North East talent into a much broader national audience.

That progression has not diluted the Sunderland identity at the heart of his work. Smith’s songs still carry the directness and urgency that made his early shows stand out, while larger stages and festival appearances have given the music more scale without losing its local grounding.
