The Cluny 2 date lands only a few months after Ger O’Donnell released his 2026 album Prove a Man, giving the Newcastle show a fresh collection of songs at the centre of the set. The record follows earlier albums Motherland and The Alchemist’s Stone, continuing a run that has helped push O’Donnell well beyond the traditional folk-club circuit.
His live appeal is partly down to range. O’Donnell is known as a singer and guitarist, but he also plays flute, bouzouki, double bass, mandolin, whistles, bodhrán, piano and several less common instruments. That versatility gives the songs more colour than a standard acoustic singer-songwriter show, even when the arrangements remain understated.
The Newcastle date also sits inside an unusually busy autumn schedule. O’Donnell’s own current listings take him through Canada, London, Ireland and Scotland across the surrounding weeks, with the Cluny 2 stop landing between Galway and a later date in Cork. That makes the show part of a genuine international touring stretch rather than a one-off regional booking.
His wider work includes performances and collaborations with names such as Sean Keane, Sharon Shannon and the Kilfenora Céilí Band, while his recent solo material has given him a clearer identity in his own right.
