King No-One Newcastle finally has a debut album behind it
The Cluny date comes six months after King No-One released debut album The Burden of Empathy, a 12-track record that reached number six on the UK Independent Albums Chart. After years of singles, EPs and touring, that gives the current live set a much clearer centre than earlier visits.
The album was written in Manchester and recorded in Bristol with producer Ali Chant, whose credits include Perfume Genius, Yard Act and Aldous Harding. Rather than smoothing away the band’s sharper edges, the record leans into the tension between bright indie hooks and lyrics about empathy, alienation and trying to remain open in a difficult world.
Its release also marked a genuine breakthrough on the charts. Alongside the number six Independent Albums position, The Burden of Empathy reached number 29 on the Official Albums Sales Chart and number nine on the Record Store Chart. That is a useful measure of the audience the group has built without relying on a major-label route.
The autumn tour places Newcastle between Glasgow on 26 October and York on 28 October, so The Cluny sits right in the middle of a tightly routed run. By this point, the new songs should be fully embedded alongside older tracks such as Alcatraz, Toxic Love and Not Willing to Sacrifice My Life.
There is fresh 2026 material beyond the album too. September brought a new version of Transgressions featuring Rol3ert, showing that King No-One are still moving the record forward rather than simply touring the April release unchanged.
The Cluny’s compact main room should suit that balance of bigger choruses and more inward-looking material. It gives the trio enough space for the songs to land with weight while keeping the audience close to the stage.
King No-One play The Cluny on Tuesday 27 October 2026. Doors are at 7.30pm and the show is 16+, with under-18s required to attend with an adult. Check King No-One and The Cluny’s official channels before travelling for any late changes to timings or admission information.
