Skating Polly Newcastle | The Cluny Gig Preview

Skating Polly return to Newcastle on Thursday 15 October 2026 for a show at The Cluny, bringing a catalogue that has never been particularly interested in staying inside one genre.

Sisters Kelli and Peyton Bighorse and drummer Kurtis Lee Mayo can move from melodic alternative rock into something much rougher without much warning. That unpredictability has been part of Skating Polly for years: a song can begin with a hook that feels almost effortless before the guitars turn abrasive and the whole thing becomes considerably less comfortable.

That range is a big part of the appeal of seeing them live. Skating Polly are capable of being loud and scrappy, but there is enough melody underneath it to stop the set becoming one-note. Shared vocals add another dimension, with the band able to change the mood and intensity of a song without making those shifts feel forced.

The Cluny also gives Newcastle audiences the chance to see that at close quarters. This isn’t a show that needs a huge production around it; much of the interest comes from the contrast within the songs themselves and the energy of the three people playing them.

After years of touring, Skating Polly arrive with considerably more behind them than a couple of standout tracks. Their recorded catalogue has grown alongside a live reputation built through repeated trips on the road, and Newcastle gets another chance to see why the trio have remained difficult to neatly categorise.

For anyone whose taste in alternative rock runs from sharp melodies to noisy guitars — preferably within the same set — this is one of the more distinctive touring bookings on The Cluny’s October calendar.
