The Surfrajettes Bring Party Across the Pond to The Grove

The Surfrajettes The Grove Newcastle brings the Canadian instrumental quartet to St Michael’s Road on Saturday 19 September 2026, with doors at 7pm. The date sits inside their Party Across the Pond run and gives Newcastle a night built around twang-heavy surf guitar, sharp rhythm playing and the kind of retro styling that has helped the band build an audience well beyond the traditional surf-rock crowd.

The Surfrajettes formed in Toronto and have spent the last few years taking a familiar instrumental language in a brighter, more playful direction. Their sound draws on the reverb-soaked guitar music of the early 1960s, but the band’s arrangements are tight enough to avoid feeling like a period exercise. That balance is part of why they have travelled so well across North America, Europe and the UK.

The band’s catalogue now stretches beyond their early covers and online performances. Their recent album work has given them more original material to build into the live set, while their visual identity remains part of the fun without taking over from the playing. The Newcastle stop therefore lands at a point where The Surfrajettes have a deeper set to draw from than on their first UK visits.

Saturday night also feels like the right slot for this one. Surf rock works best when it is allowed to move quickly and keep the room loose, and The Grove’s compact floor should make the set feel immediate rather than formal.
