Vice Killer and Josh Webb Play Freight Island
County Durham indie band Vice Killer play Freight Island Newcastle on 8 October with Newcastle singer-songwriter Josh Webb.

Vice Killer Freight Island Newcastle brings the County Durham indie band into the Plant Room on Thursday 8 October 2026, with Newcastle singer-songwriter Josh Webb also on the bill. The Playing Out session begins at 5pm and keeps Freight Island’s Thursday live programme focused firmly on North East artists.
Vice Killer Freight Island Newcastle puts two regional acts together
Vice Killer are an indie/alternative band from Peterlee, County Durham, and released debut album A Miners’ Capital in May 2025. The record followed two EPs and gave the group a larger body of songs built around the places, people and working lives that have shaped them in the North East.
That regional thread makes the Freight Island booking more interesting than a generic indie night. Vice Killer have consistently written from a local perspective, while Josh Webb brings another Newcastle connection to the same bill. Instead of using a touring headliner with a local opener underneath, Playing Out gives two artists from the region a shared city-centre platform.
Vice Killer’s catalogue has developed steadily since the band formed in 2020. Early material introduced a melodic indie sound with a slightly darker edge, while later releases including Keep On Fighting On, In This Place, Bright from the Bay and A Miners’ Capital pushed the songwriting further into stories connected to home and everyday life.
Josh Webb gives the night a contrasting second voice. His singer-songwriter approach is more stripped back, so the pairing should allow the evening to move between a full-band indie sound and something more direct without losing the North East focus.
Freight Island’s Plant Room is also a different environment from the smaller grassroots venues both acts have played around the region. The large hospitality space puts live music in front of a mixed crowd, which can help local artists reach listeners who have not arrived specifically for a conventional gig.
