Major Accident are one of Darlington’s longest-running punk bands, with a story that reaches back to the original late-1970s punk explosion. Founding singer Paul Larkin and bassist Con Larkin have remained central to the band’s history, while guitarist Dave Hammond was there from the early days and drummer Andy “Laze” Lazenby joined when Major Accident reformed in the 1990s.

The band built its reputation through a mixture of direct punk songwriting, a distinctive visual identity and a catalogue that became closely associated with the UK street-punk and Oi! scenes. Records including Massacred Melodies, A Clockwork Legion and later releases helped carry the name well beyond Darlington, but the North East has remained an important part of the story.

That local connection is still visible in the band’s current activity. Major Accident’s own website lists an extensive 2026 live schedule, including a return to The Forum Music Centre in Darlington. The venue describes those autumn homecoming shows as part of the town’s street-punk tradition, with Major Accident repeatedly bringing their live set back to the same grassroots room.

The current run follows international activity too, including appearances in the United States and Europe. Even with that wider audience, the Darlington dates carry a different weight because they reconnect the band with the place where much of its history began.

The members’ own site also documents the people who have passed through Major Accident over the years. Paul Larkin is identified as the founding singer, Con Larkin as the founding bassist and Dave Hammond as a founding guitarist, while Laze joined on drums for the 1996 reformation and played on later material including The Ultimate High and Cry of the Legion.
