Major Accident are one of Darlington’s longest-running punk bands, with a story reaching back to the original late-1970s punk explosion. Founding singer Paul Larkin and bassist Con Larkin have remained central to that history, with guitarist Dave Hammond there from the early days and drummer Andy “Laze” Lazenby joining when the band reformed in the 1990s.
Records including Massacred Melodies, A Clockwork Legion, The Ultimate High and Cry of the Legion helped carry the band’s street-punk and Oi! sound well beyond the North East. Their catalogue and visual identity gave Major Accident a place of their own within UK punk while keeping Darlington firmly in the background of the story.
The band continue to tour internationally while returning to The Forum Music Centre and other Darlington stages for homecoming shows. Those dates make the history feel active rather than archival, connecting the town’s original punk scene directly with its current grassroots circuit.
