Barbican Estate Bring Rock Drill to The Cluny
Tokyo-formed experimental rock trio Barbican Estate bring new album Rock Drill to The Cluny on 9 November 2026.

The Barbican Estate Newcastle gig reaches The Cluny on Monday 9 November 2026, only three days after the release of the trio’s second album, Rock Drill. Formed in Tokyo and now based in London, the band bring an approach built from experimental rock, noise, physical performance and a strong visual sensibility.

A new album drives the Barbican Estate Newcastle gig
Rock Drill is released on 6 November 2026 through God Unknown Records. The record expands the stark, confrontational language Barbican Estate have developed, balancing abrasive sections with space, momentum and flashes of playfulness. For Newcastle listeners, the timing makes this show one of the earliest opportunities to hear the album in a live room.
Two singles introduce that wider palette. Derek presents the group at their most direct and propulsive, turning their noise-driven attack into an unexpectedly celebratory rush. Atlas follows in October and opens another route into the album’s tense, exploratory world.
Barbican Estate relocated from Tokyo to London in 2022. Since then, they have become part of the capital’s underground circuit, appearing at events connected with Eat Your Own Ears, Baba Yaga’s Hut, Rough Trade East and The Great Escape. Their music and performances have also featured through NTS Radio and Resonance FM.
The story began with debut album Way Down East in 2021. In 2024, the independently released Viscum EP paired the band’s music with work by emerging British visual artists. Consequently, Rock Drill feels like a continuation of their interest in sound, image and physical space, but on a larger and more experimental scale.
