Birdvox Bring Shamming The Drama to Cluny 2
Birdvox bring their debut album Shamming The Drama to Cluny 2 in Newcastle on 8 November 2026.

The Birdvox Newcastle gig brings four distinctive Scottish musicians to Cluny 2 on Sunday 8 November 2026. Sarah Hayes, Inge Thomson, Jenny Sturgeon and Charlotte Printer arrive with their debut album, Shamming The Drama, and a shared approach that refuses a tidy genre label.
Why the Birdvox Newcastle gig stands apart
Birdvox describe the album through a vivid mixture of political disco, skewed folk, avian electronica and songs built for movement. However, the record is held together by the equal contribution of all four artist-producers. The twelve songs explore joy, rage, connection, grief, empowerment, the natural world and peace. That range gives the Cluny 2 show more depth than a conventional album tour stop.
Each member brings a substantial musical history. Hayes is a founding member of Admiral Fallow and contributes vocals, synth, flute and drum programming. Thomson adds vocals, accordion, field recordings and programming after years of collaboration with Karine Polwart. Sturgeon, also known for her solo work and Salt House, handles vocals, guitars, keyboards and programming. Meanwhile, Printer brings vocals, bass, percussion and programming, with previous performance credits including Altered Images and Joesef.
Their voices also move between Scots, Shetland dialect, old Norn and English. As a result, Birdvox connect contemporary electronic production with older language and folk practice. Peter Brewis of Field Music co-produced the album with the group, adding another North East connection to the project without diluting its collective identity.
