Mark Olson and Ingunn Ringvold Head to The Cluny
The Jayhawks co-founder Mark Olson and Ingunn Ringvold play The Cluny in Newcastle on 8 November 2026.

The Mark Olson Newcastle gig brings the co-founder of The Jayhawks to The Cluny on Sunday 8 November 2026. Olson appears with Norwegian singer and arranger Ingunn Ringvold for an evening rooted in harmony singing, acoustic detail and a songwriting history stretching back four decades.
What shapes the Mark Olson Newcastle gig
Born and raised in Minnesota, Olson largely taught himself to play. His work is especially associated with alternate guitar tunings and a vocal style in which two voices sing together before opening into harmony. Olson founded The Jayhawks in Minneapolis in 1985 and became one of the band’s principal songwriters, singers and guitarists.
His writing and performances helped define records including Blue Earth, Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass. After leaving the group, he formed the Original Harmony Ridge Creekdippers in 1997. The project, later shortened to the Creekdippers, went on to make seven albums and continued Olson’s interest in close collaboration and stripped-back arrangements.
Ringvold brings a complementary perspective from Larvik, Norway. Alongside four solo albums, she has built a long creative partnership with Olson and contributes expressive vocals and carefully shaped string arrangements. The pair now live and record in Surprise Valley, California. Consequently, this Cluny date is a chance to hear songs connected to Olson’s best-known catalogue alongside music developed through their work together.
The room should suit that focus. Rather than relying on spectacle, the performance can place the pair’s voices, guitar language and storytelling at the centre of the night.
