The Often Herd Bring New Bluegrass Chapter to Cluny 2
North East bluegrass band The Often Herd return to Cluny 2 after US touring, with a second album in progress and a new single expected in autumn 2026.
The Often Herd Newcastle brings the North East bluegrass band to Cluny 2 on Saturday 7 November 2026. The date sits inside an international year that includes a debut United States tour, Scandinavian shows and the development of a second album.
A second Often Herd album is in production, with its first single expected in autumn 2026. Consequently, the Cluny 2 performance may catch the group just as a new recording chapter begins. Established songs can sit beside material still finding its live shape.
The Often Herd Newcastle returns after US touring
The Cluny 2 date follows the band’s debut US tour and comes before November concerts in Denmark. Summer appearances include Grey Fox Bluegrass, ROMP and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. That journey takes a Tyneside-rooted group into places central to bluegrass history.
The Often Herd doesn’t simply imitate an American string band. Driving energy, close harmonies and instrumental interplay remain important, while Northern England’s natural and industrial landscapes colour the writing. Therefore, the music keeps a recognisable regional identity.
Debut album Where the Big Lamp Shines arrived in 2022. More recent singles “Cool Summer Rain” and “Remember My Name” widen the sound through West Coast harmonies, folk-pop hooks, drums and keyboards. Guitarist Rupert Hughes and mandolin player Evan Davies wrote the respective tracks.
Those songs were inspired by journeys to La Roche in the French Alps. Meanwhile, the second album turns towards modern life, Tyneside’s industrial past and the relationship between people and nature. Old-time grooves and stronger backbeats help carry those themes.
Cluny 2 brings that expanding music back into close North East surroundings. Doors open at 7.30pm, and advance tickets cost £15 plus fees. The show is for ages 16 and over. Anyone under 18 must attend with an adult.
