Hail the Sun Newcastle brings the California experimental rock band to The Cluny on Friday 6 November 2026. Blight Town and Exit Dream join a bill centred on the headliner’s seventh album, cut. turn. fade. back.
The 11 songs on cut. turn. fade. back. follow a cycle through conflict, addiction, lost love and death. Its four-word title reflects movement through that cycle, while the music repeatedly returns to questions about behaviour, consequence and survival.
Hail the Sun Newcastle opens a new album cycle
The record begins with the post-hardcore movement of “The Drooling Class” and ends with the violent intensity of “War Crimes”. Between them, the band tackles humanitarian crises and military atrocities alongside more personal subjects. Consequently, the album moves between global damage and private collapse.
Hail the Sun formed in Chico, California, in 2009. The current line-up includes Donovan Melero, Shane Gann, Aric Garcia, John Stirrat and Allen Casillas. Fifteen years of development sit behind the new material, yet the seventh record still reshapes parts of their identity.
Production is especially important to this phase. Pete Adams and Johnny Kosich produced and engineered the album, while Zakk Cervini handled mixing and mastering. However, the Newcastle show must translate that detailed studio work into the direct impact of a five-piece band.
The Cluny should make the rhythmic switches and twin-guitar interplay easy to follow. Meanwhile, the room has enough physical weight for the record’s repeated crescendos. Blight Town and Exit Dream also give the evening a broader view of current post-hardcore and alternative music.
Doors open at 7pm, and advance tickets cost £18 plus fees. The event is for ages 16 and over. Anyone under 18 must attend with an adult.
